Governor William F. Quinn greeted at the airport by Pacific University students
-
Description
-
Governor of Hawaii, William F. Quinn, being welcomed with a lei from a female Pacific University student as five other students observe. This photograph was taken at the Portland Airport on March 5, 1960. A photograph taken at the same event was published in a local newspaper; its caption identified three of the male students as: Allen Uyematsu of Wailuku; Warren Higa of Waipahu, Oahu; and Richard Shoda of Kahului. All of the students pictured appear to have been members of the Hawaiian Club, or Haumana O Hawai'i. The article also notes that Gov. Quinn was being greeted at the airport upon his arrival in Oregon because he had been invited as the keynote speaker at the inauguration of Pacific's President Miller A. F. Ritchie, on March 6.

[Transcription of text on back of photograph:] Gov. Wm. F. Quinn being met at the Airport by a very attractive Pacific University student. The enthusiasm is obvious and the satisfaction not only of the Governor but of the other people present is shown by the expression on their faces. The Hawaiian students have the traditional Lei around their necks.
