Description

This house was built in 1874 and is located at 2606 17th Avenue. The land on which this house was built was sold to James D. Robb in 1874 by Dr. Sydney H. Marsh, President of Pacific University. James and his wife, Caroline lived in the house from 1874 to 1882. Mr. Robb was the Washington County Superintendent of Schools and principal of the Tualatin Academy from 1874 – 1881. Mr. Robb sold the house to Rev. William Roberts and his wife Hanna in 1881. Rev. Roberts had a distinguished career in Methodiest missionary work in Oregon. This couple raised young Catherine Sager, a survivor of the Whitman Massacre. Edward and Samantha Coleman purchased the house in 1900. Samantha was a suffragette and temperance lady. Picture is of the window bay with period wallpapered walls, a chair and side table and a chaise lounge This house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 14, 1988. Also known as the Robb-Roberts (William Roberts) House and the Samantha Coleman House Harley McDonald was the architect who designed the house
