Following please supplementary report of our agent #1.
Friday, Sept 15th.
To-day in Forest Grove:
Man who sold liquor was Charles Miller, the proprietor of the drug store. Lot Langley the man described in report in paying for beer tendered $1 received 50 cents and 25 cents in change. Was present a hardware drummer named McCLung, Lewis Gower a San Francisco Examiner subsoription solicitor and myself. Langley purchased second bottle and gave 25 cents. Gower paid for a bottle giving $1 receiving 50 cents and 25 cents change. On paying for it he asked Miller the proprietor if he wanted some silver, having $10 which he desired to change for gold or paper dollars in exchange. Money paid to Miller for beer: 50 cents, 25 cents change, second bottle 25 cents, third bottle $1 change 50 cents and 25 cents, fourth bottle gave 25 cents. While there the slot machine was played by Gower and myself.
Saturday, Sept 16th.
To-day in Forest Grove:
With Kerrigan and Anderson I gave 25 cents for bottle of beer. Kerrigan in treating gave 50 cents and received 25 cents in change. Fred or sometimes called Hanley Kane in paying for the bottle drank by himself and 25 cent piece. Anderson on treating Kane, Kerrigan and agent paid $1 and received 50 and 25 cents change, Man described shaking dice with Kane and inviting Anderson, Kerrigan and agent to drink, gave a quarter for the bottle, later on paying for the blackberry and whiskey he gave a silver dollar.Agent in purchasing beer gave five dollar gold piece receiving four silver dollars 50 cents and a quarter, on second occasion 25 cent piece, third 50 cent piece change 25 cents, fourth, 25 cent piece.
When Wirtz came in he paid $1 received change 50 and 25 cent pieces while treating Kane, Anderson, Kerrigan and agent. Again bough a bottle giving one dollar receiving 50 and 25 cent pieces in change. Later gave 25 cent piece. When insurance agent Staley arrived he treated, gave $1 and received 50 and 25 cent pieces change, immediately gave the 25 cent piece for another bottle.
During these transactions the clerk, the only man in the store with Mr Miller, sold the beer. He was 22 years old, 5 feet 8 inches, 150 lbs, smooth face, long black hair parted in middle forehead, blue eyes, first name Fred.
Sunday, Sept. 17th.
To-day in Forest Grove:
Man described as being with Fred Kane was Judge Dolstrum. Agent in buying beer tendered first $1 received 50 and 25 cent pieces in change. Second time, 25 cent piece, third, 50 cents receiving 25 cents change. Kane received the money in the absence of the clerk in the front part of the store. He reciprocated the treat twice.
Monday, Sept 18th
To-day in Forest Grove:
With W.H.Sears, agent gave drug clerk a quarter for bottle of beer. Sears in reciprocating gave 50 cents, received 25 cents in change. On Jack Roys arrival Agent paid $1, change 50 and 25 cent pieces. Clerk having returned to front of store Mr Roy got another bottle but could not open it not understanding hot to operate cork screw. Clerk came back on being called and pulled the cork and received silver dollar from Roy and returned 50 and 25 cent pieces in change. Roy shortly after purchased another bottle to drink with agent and Sears and one to take home paying a 50 cent piece.
Emmett Iwick drinking with Ballcrow gave 50 cents and received change 25 cents. Later Iwick gave 25 cents for a bottle for Sears and agent. Operative with Theo Wirtz changed $5 gold piece receiving in change one silver dollar, seven half dollars and 25 cent piece. For a second bottle with Wirtz gave the 25 cents. Kane with Si Clark and agent gave 50 cent piece and received 25 cents in change. Clark gave $1 in silver received 50 and 25 cent pieces in change. Agent gave 50 cents received 25 cents change. Kane second treat gave quarter, third time, $ 1 received change 50 and 25 cent pieces. Agents second treat gave 25 cents, third gave 50 cents change and fourth 25 cents. Clerk on all these occasions took money.
Wednesday, Sept 20th
To-day in Forest Grove:
Man described drinking with John the wagon maker in payment gave 25 cents. Agent treating the two gave $5 gold piece received change 4 silver dollars, 50 and 25 cent pieces. Miller received money.
The former druggist mentioned in report was 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches, 145 lbs, brown hair and mustache, florid complexion.
