Portrait of Mrs. Griffin

Portrait of Mrs. Griffin

A carte-de-visit format portrait of "Mrs. Griffin," according to a note on the back of the photograph. This is probably the wife of the early Oregon settler, minister and newspaper publisher, John Smith Griffin, some of whom's papers were donated to Pacific University. It could be either his first wife, Desire Smith Griffin (died 1884), or his second wife, Lina Harvey Kenyon Griffin. There was more information previously on the back of the photo but it is now indecipherable. Based on the format of the photograph and the hairstyle, it most likely dates from the 1860s or possibly the 1870s.

Date Created
