Pacific University Trustees 1884 meeting minutes on opposition to moving the Indian School

Title

Pacific University Trustees 1884 meeting minutes on opposition to moving the Indian School

Description

Minutes taken at a meeting of the Pacific University Board of Trustees on July 14, 1884. Secretary George H. Atkinson read a paper addressed to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs regarding the future location of the Forest Grove Indian Training School. (See the original paper, which argues that the school should stay in Forest Grove.) The trustees resolved that the paper be 'accepted, adopted, printed and placed into the hands of the Secretary for use.' Ultimately, the trustees were not successful in keeping the Indian Training School in Forest Grove. It moved to Salem in 1885, and was later renamed 'Chemawa School.'
