His hair is parted on one side, and he wears a white dress with knickers over striped socks and buttoned boots. A dark sash with double rows of ruffles on either end crosses over his left shoulder and ties at his waist. He stands one end of a velvet fainting couch, with a cheetah-fur drape at his feet, and he holds a toy lamb with wheels on the arm of the couch.

The cuffs are finished with a double layer of pleats and lace. She appears to wear a high-necked blouse with a lace collar and an elaborate jabot beneath the bodice. Her matching overskirt consists of petal shaped sections edged in the same coordinating material as her collar and cuffs, while the underskirt is thickly pleated with a decorative band of the coordinating fabric. She wears a simple band ring on the ring finger of her right hand, and earrings dangle from each ear. A slight reddish tint has been applied to her cheeks.

Black and white studio image of a woman in a dress with a tunic bodice. The bodice features a double row of buttons in a v-shape going up to a small collar. The cuffs and collar of the dress appear to be velvet, and a large ribbon bow is tied at her neck and upon her head. Elaborate embroidery extends across the yoke and skirt and fills the front bodice. A wide, dark sash with white streaks is tied at one side of her waist. Her hand rests on top of two books set on the table beside her. Her hair is parted in the middle and hangs in small ringlets to either side of her face.
Sepia-toned image of a young woman in a suit and bonnet. She wears a two-piece dress with a bustle and a pleated fringe on the bottom, and a pleated detail at the cuffs of her sleeves. Lace trim and fingerless gloves complete her fashionable attire. Her dress is typical of styles in the late 1870s, given its lack of a draped overskirt and relatively minor ornamentation. However, since the addressee in the transcription, Alice Sewell, was born in 1888 and photo postcards were not available until after 1902, it is likely that Ms. Brown had the photo reprinted at a later date. While the museum has no record of just who, exactly, Cleopatra Bella Brown was, Alice Sewell was a student at Pacific University in 1907 and 1908, then in 1911, after studying art in New York, returned to teach art at Pacific for a few years. Ms. Sewell was a sculptor and painter and remained an integral part of the Portland area art scene for much of the first half of the twentieth century.

Tintype portrait of a woman with a parasol or umbrella. She is unidentified, but may have a connection to the Washington County, Oregon area. She is posing in a studio next to a tree stump with a bucolic painted backdrop, and is holding an object in her hand, possibly a purse. The tintype is held within a printed paper frame. Based on the format and the clothing style, this image likely dates from the 1870s or 1880s.
