Begun in the 1940s, this mill, belonging to the Stimson Lumber Company, was one of the first in the United States to focus on making 'hardboard,' a compressed wood product. In this way, Stimson was able to make use of much of the partially burned and cracked green lumber left over after the Tillamook Burn.
