People standing on the platform of the Wilkesboro train station near Banks, Oregon, circa 1911-1914. This was a stop on the electric interurban United Railways route that ran from Portland to Wilkesboro beginning in 1911. Train car number 900 is on the track. For another photograph of this station and more information about the railway line, see: Hallgren & Due, "United Railways of Oregon" (1961).
A sign on the station reads, "Great Northern Express Co." The Great Northern Express was a conventional railway that connected to the United Railways line.
The photographer, William Alonso Clapshaw, exposed half of a glass plate negative to create this image. The other half of the glass plate was used to make another photograph; see image PUA_MS154_011b. Flaws in the photograph are due to dust and deterioration of the emulsion layer on the negative.
A photograph of two men sitting in front of the Perrydale Railroad Station. Perrydale is an unincorporated community in Polk County, Oregon. This photograph was printed on postcard stock and includes a note to "Miss Winnette Sears". It is postmarked 1909. This photograph is part of the Charles Lovell and Winnette Sears Walker Collection. Winnette was a 1906 alumna of Linfield College. Charles was an alumnus of Tualatin Academy who later became a musician and an insurance agent in Hillsboro, Oregon.
A view of three men standing just outside the Oregon Electric Railway's Tigard Depot. On the end of the building a sign reads 'Tigard.' Train tracks and electric power lines run along the left side of the building. The Germania Hall hotel can be seen to the back and left of the depot. The Tigard depot was located on the south side of the rail line, and was bounded by present day Main ST. (to the east), Pacific Highway (to the west) and Tigard St. (to the south). According to a November 20, 1907 article in the Oregonian, the electric railway's last spike connecting Portland and Salem was driven "near Tigardville."
The train station in Garden Home, Oregon, in 1911. This was a station in the Oregon Electric Railway (OER) system; note the electric lines above the trains. The OER system linked Portland to Salem, and later extended to Eugene. At the Garden Home station, a branch line forked west to Forest Grove. The original copy of this photograph is in the collection of the Washington County Museum.
