A newspaper clipping of Rev. Thomas McClelland (1846-1926), Pacific University's fourth president. He served from 1891-1900. During his term many of Pacific's most longstanding traditions began including the school newspaper, The Index, and several school sports including basketball, baseball, and track.

Henry Bates was the nineteenth and final principal of Tualatin Academy. When the Academy closed in 1915, Bates became the Dean of Faculty and a Professor of Philosophy at Pacific University.
