A pond filled with floating logs waiting to be cut for lumber at the sawmill in the background. A small bridge, a shed, and workers standing inside the mill are also visible. This photograph was taken in the vicinity of Forest Grove, Oregon circa 1910-1914. It may show the mill that was formerly located near the intersection of String Town Road and Highway 8 between Forest Grove and Gales Creek; the ridgeline in the background appears to match the one seen from that location. At this time, logging companies would cut trees in the Tillamook Forest and then float them down Gales Creek for milling.
A photograph captioned, "Eugene Saw Mill, Eugene, Ore." This photograph is printed on postcard stock and includes a brief note to "Mr. Chas Walker". It is postmarked September 9th, 1910. This photograph is part of the Charles Lovell and Winnette Sears Walker Collection. Winnette was a 1906 alumna of Linfield College. Charles was an alumnus of Tualatin Academy who later became a musician and an insurance agent in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Black and white image of a man standing next to what appears to be a large, mechanized, one-man cross-cut saw. The log lays along the right of the image, and has been cut into neat cross-sections. Museum records identify the man as Harrison Beaman.
Black and white image of a man standing on the running board of an antique logging truck, loaded with logs. The truck sits on a dirt road, with the engine used to load the logs behind it. The man wears a plain shirt and pants over work boots. There are about eight or nine logs on the back of his truck, held on with chains. The truck has double wheels on the trailer, but not the cab.
Black and white image of a train sitting on the tracks in a logged and/or burned hillside. There are a great number of bare trees, both standing and laying down. The train appears to be made of either logging cars full of logs or boxcars and is lined across the middle of the image, ending at a building of some sort. The hillside is steep, and there are visible supports beneath the track. The photographer stands on a hillside across from the train itself.
Sepia-toned image printed on decorated cardstock of logs being floated down a river. Four men stand on various logs, using pikes to direct them. The water in this section appears calm, though more swiftly running water can be seen in the upper portion of the image.
Black and white image of several women a 12-ox team being used to move a large log. A man stands next to one of the oxen, and a number of women and another man stand off to the back watching. The women wear clothing typical of the turn of the century, full sleeves and long skirts with large hats. Several other logs are in the background, and a dirt road runs along a rail fence back towards a house in the very back of the image.
Sepia-toned image of a number of people posed around the yard of a sawmill. One man to the left of the image sits on an ox, part of an eight-ox team. Several other men stand around the yard. One man sits on a pile of lumber, holding an ax. A man and a woman stand just beneath the eaves of the building; he wears a white shirt with a vest and dark pants; she has on a long, light-colored dress with leg of mutton sleeves and wears her hair up. Two men sit in a buggy pulled by donkeys. Three other men sit on top of stacked, cut lumber in the right of the image. Stacks of thin cut lumber fill the foreground of the image, and inside the building machinery is visible. The building itself is open framed, with a wide, gabled roof with an extension down on the left. A small smokestack emits smoke from another roof on the lower image right of the building. Another gabled building in the left image background has two narrow paned windows and what appears to be an open stable attached to the back. The two buildings are separated by a yard with a path. Bare deciduous trees rise up behind the sawmill, and full pine trees are visible beyond the second building.
Six men pose in front of a machine in a forest. The machine consists of a boiler with a boiler with a smokestack extending above machinery under a framed porch, and a cable wound onto a spool. The entire mechanism sits on two large, squared off logs that are partially buried in the ground beneath it. A cable runs from a lever extending above the front of the machine out of the image to the right. Three men stand in front of the machine on the foundation logs, large chains with links as big as their feet on the wood below them. Two are dressed in work clothing, light shirts and dark pants with hats or caps. The third man wears overalls and a hat pushed back on his head. In the foreground, one man sits with his feet dangling over the edge of a large log laid across the support logs for the boiler. A man sits on a block behind him, feet dangling over the first man's shoulders. A third man sits on a block nearby. All wear overalls over light shirts, and various styles of hat. Pine trees of various sizes fill the background of the image, and the ground in the left of the image is covered with debris and tree limbs.
A man with a double team of white horses poses in front of a large, two-story plus frame building. Cut lumber is piled to the right of the image and in the foreground before the mill. Lumber can also be seen piled on the board floor of the first building. Cut stumps line along beside the building. He wears a light-colored shirt and dark pants. Tall, back-lit pine trees fill the background of the image, and the ground is generally bare with some vague debris littered to the left.
A large steam engine tractor with a couple trailers full of logs. The loggers are seen posing around the vehicle and on top of the logs. The front of the engine reads 'THE BEST MANF'G CO SAN LEANDRO CAL.'

Picture looks to be at the end of a lake or a small body of standing water. The area around the lake to the shoreline has been cut of standing trees. On the right hand side of the body of water is a logging camp. There are two rows of buildings that look to be the kind that are transported by rail. To the left of these buildings are a few smaller buildings. A steam engine is beside these buildings and is operational. In the background are standing trees of a heavily wooded area.

Five flatbed railcars each loaded with large logs sitting by themselves. The scene is in a hilly, wooded area. There looks to be three sets of parallel tracks at this point with the right track having a switch. The closest railcar looks to have NORTHERN on its side.
A large steam donkey mounted on a flatbed railcar with the trucks removed. The engine is at the back with multiple reels of cable throughout the remainder of the railcar. A man is standing by one of the larger reels toward the back and appears to be looking toward the front of the railcar. The donkey is snugged up to a stout tree that has been rigged into a spar tree and derrick. Behind the donkey is a hill littered with logs. Oregon American Lumber Co. is on the side of the railcar
The back side of the office buildings of the Gales Creek Logging Company are on the right. Many smaller buildings are lined up in rows. Most of these would be living quarters for the workers.
A man and two women, one on each side of the man, who have their arms over his shoulders are standing on a wood platform posing for the photographer. A logging camp can be seen in the background along with a couple of men who are working but stopped to look toward the camera. The man is wearing a tie and clothes not suitable for working in the woods. The women are in white or light colored dresses.
