Panoramic photograph of the Pacific University campus, showing the principal buildings as they stood in 1887 before Marsh Hall was built. From left to right, the large buildings are: Old College Hall (which is now in a different location); Academy Hall (burned in 1910); Herrick Hall (the first girls' dormitory, burned in 1906). Students or faculty stand in the field between the buildings, and David Hill appears in the background. This photograph was taken by a travelling photographer from the I.G. Davidson Studio, based in Portland.
An interior view of a sitting area within the women's dormitory at Pacific University, probably "Second Herrick Hall" circa the 1920s-1930s based on the furniture style.
Herrick Hall was the female dormitory at Pacific University from 1884 to 1973. In 1906, the First Herrick Hall set fire and was reconstructed as Second Herrick Hall. The second Herrick caught fire again on January 2, 1973 and was torn down.
Photograph of faculty and families in front of Pacific University's Herrick Hall. It was built around 1882 as the women's dormitory and burned down in 1906. It was named after Reverend John R. Herrick, Pacific's 1879-1883 president. Identified are: Frank Thomas Chapman, director of Pacific's music conservatory; James Rood Robertson, who served as principal of Tualatin Academy from 1890-1893, and then as professor of history at Pacific University from 1893-1906; and the wife of William Thomas Fletcher, professor mathematics and Latin.
An interior view of a room in the first Herrick Hall at Pacific University which burned down in 1906. The room might belong to the Dean of Women, Mary Frances Farnham, who served from 1915 to 1924.
