This was a stop on the electric interurban United Railways route that ran from Portland to Wilkesboro beginning in 1911. Train car number 900 is on the track. A sign on the station reads, "Great Northern Express Co." The Great Northern Express was a conventional railway that connected to the United Railways line.
The photographer, William Alonso Clapshaw, exposed half of a glass plate negative to create this image. The other half of the glass plate was used to make another photograph; see image PUA_MS154_011b. Flaws in the photograph are due to dust and deterioration of the emulsion layer on the negative.
A photograph of two men sitting in front of the Perrydale Railroad Station. Perrydale is an unincorporated community in Polk County, Oregon. This photograph was printed on postcard stock and includes a note to "Miss Winnette Sears". It is postmarked 1909. This photograph is part of the Charles Lovell and Winnette Sears Walker Collection. Winnette was a 1906 alumna of Linfield College. Charles was an alumnus of Tualatin Academy who later became a musician and an insurance agent in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Black and white image of an old railroad locomotive, identified as 104 Long --Bell, with two men standing beside it. Though museum records do not specifically identify either the engine or the men beside it, the locomotive is most likely a Baldwin locomotive run by the Oregon-American Lumber company. The Oregon-American lumber company harvested lumber in the Vernonia and Keasey area in the early 1900s, and delivered its lumber to market via a rail line that ran from Vernonia to Banks, and then into Portland via Cornelius Pass.
