Many students at this school were from families employed by the Snooseville logging camp and Sherman's Mill cabins a few miles north of the school. The two logging camps were associated with Buckley & Lowe Mill (1930-1942) and Sherman's Mill (1925-1935). Sherman's Mill became Dixon's Mill in 1936.
