Governor Atiyeh biting into turkey sandwich made from turkeys from the Norbest processing plant. Some 27,000 turkeys were impounded from the a flock near McMinnville, Oregon after state and federal tests showed some of the birds had high concentrations of PCB, a cancer causing chemical. Free turkey sandwiches were offered by the Chamber of Commerce to offset or counteract adverse publicity that the impounding caused. Atiyeh said 'it tastes good,' after he bit into the sandwich.

Independent truck driver Dave Crandall pours peanuts from empty gasoline can for Oregon Governor Victor Atiyeh as the Governor met with some 40 drivers on the capitol steps. The truckers drove to Salem in convoy from Portland. Crandall told the Governor, as he poured the peanuts, 'We can't run our trucks on peanuts, Governor.'
