Two farmers wearing overalls and straw hats sit on a pair of plows, each of which is drawn by a team of two horses. A young horse (or possibly a mule?) stands near one of the horse teams. This photograph was taken in the vicinity of Forest Grove, Oregon circa 1910-1914, possibly in the Hillside or Hayward communities northwest of town. A field stands behind them, with a partially cleared forest and several houses on the hill in the background. This photograph appears to have been overexposed, and also has some damage due to deterioration of the emulsion layer on the negative.
Black and white toned image of a man wearing overalls and a hat standing behind a two-horse team pulling a harrow through a field. Hills rise in the background, just beyond a plowed field. The photo was donated by Ella Garrigus, and the man is probably her husband, Orval Hutchens, or one of his family members.
Black and white image of a man in a shirt, tie, vest and slacks standing in a field of plants. Two other people stand behind him, and trees fill the background of the image. The man holds a light-colored hat in one hand. Museum records identify this location as 'City Farm' in Hillsboro.
Sepia-toned image of a plow with continuous track wheels plowing under a field of straw. In the distance, a house and barn with other outbuildings sit beside a dense stand of pine trees. Museum records do not identify either the farm or its location, but the photo was part of the Herbert McMullen bequest. McMullen was a local photographer who, in addition to taking his own photographs, collected images that depicted daily life in the area.
