Several older attendees (possibly donors) at the dedication of Pacific University's "Chemistry Unit of the Science Complex," later named Murdock Hall. This event took place on January 22, 1981. According to the student newspaper: "The new chemistry unit features 24 person stations in two laboratories and 12 stations in another lab" (The Index, Jan. 16, 1981). This is one of a set of images taken at the dedication.
A posed photograph of a man, probably a Pacific University student, performing a chemistry experiment in a lab on campus. The photograph was likely intended to illustrate the new resources available in the "Chemistry Unit of the Science Complex," later named Murdock Hall, which had just opened in January of 1981. The picture was taken by photographer Leo E. Arfer, probably for usage in publications celebrating the opening of the building. Arfer was a professional photographer who also taught photography at Mt. Hood Community College, per his obituary. The original slide is dated February, 1981.

A group portrait of men and women who appear to be alumni of Pacific University; possibly accompanied by some faculty and staff. The woman in a grey suit with a large corsage, center-left, may be Alice E. Davis Hoskins (Class of 1956), who became the Service Center Manager at Pacific. The man with no tie, top row fourth from the right, appears to be Professor Fred Scheller (Class of 1943; 1953 MA). This is one of a set of group portraits that were taken in October 1980 during Homecoming and Reunion weekend. For a description of the event and other related images, see: Pacific University Alumni Magazine, Winter 1980-81 issue, p. 4.

A portrait of Michael K. Y. Chun, who was a Pacific University student (Class of 1984) at the time this photograph was taken. Chun apparently signed the negative. This was likely taken by a Pacific staff photographer for use in a campus publication. The original slide was printed in September, 1983. Based on other images from the same set, the photograph from which it was derived was probably taken earlier in that year.
Dr. Juan Guzman teaching Spanish at a blackboard at Pacific University. Guzman was hired in the 1979-1980 academic year to become the director of bilingual education at Pacific University (see Pacific University Alumni Magazine, Spring 1980, p. 17). The original slide was printed in May, 1980. A related photograph that appears to have been taken on the same day was published in the university's annual catalog in 1983-5.

A portrait of Richard Albrecht, who was a student at Pacific University (Class of 1984) at the time this photograph was taken. Albrecht apparently signed the reverse side of the negative. His signature appears here facing in the correct direction, but the wording on his shirt is backwards. The image was likely made by a Pacific staff photographer for use in a campus publication. This slide was printed in September, 1983; but the photograph was taken earlier in that year. A photograph from the same time, but without the signature, was printed in August, 1983; see: PUA_PeoSlides_500. This other slide shows the full wording on his shirt, which reads: "Once a Viking..." This refers to the Forest Grove High School "Vikings," where he was a standout football player before coming to Pacific.
People waiting for the beginning of "Spring Fest," a live music event, on a football field in Forest Grove, Oregon in Spring, 1980. There is a stage in the background and an AV station in the foreground. In the middle ground, a mixed-age audience of children and adults have set up blankets and chairs on the grass, and have decorated with helium balloons. The event was described in the university's alumni magazine: "Lots of sunshine, frisbees, balloons, and music combined to make the third annual Spring Festival a day to remember. Two large tents were erected on the football field and Pacific students were able to picnic and sunbathe from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. while listening to performers ranging from the Muddy Bottom Boys (bluegrass) to Ki-n-Kaboodle Clowns to Cruise Control (jazz)."
