Taking office

Victor Atiyeh was officially sworn in as Oregon's Governor by the state's Supreme Court Chief Justice Arno H. Denecke on January 8, 1979. Months of planning and work from the gubernatorial transition staff and from Atiyeh himself preceded that official ceremony. Atiyeh entered office with clear ideas about what he wanted his administration to achieve, goals of bringing efficiency, clarity, and unity to government.
