-
In the interview, Atiyeh and Moore discuss: Atiyeh's governorship, focusing on his leadership style, decision-making, and the impact of his policies; Atiyeh's views on the importance of cooperation during the Recession of the early 1980s and the significance reforming Oregon's Unitary Tax system in order to attract high-tech companies; the introduction of the "Kicker" state income tax rebate system in 1979, which initially saved $600 million but later became entitlement-driven; Atiyeh's role in shifting Oregon from a timber-based economy to a more diverse one, including the role of HP and Tektronix in the high-tech boom; the need for foresight in public policy; and the challenges of maintaining Oregon's competitive edge.
